JPO Introduces Electronic Patent Grants
The Japanese Patent Office (JPO) will implement the electronic transmission of patent certificates and other documents starting on April 1, 2024, in accordance with the previously-announced Plan for Promoting the Digitization of Procedures.
The following documents will be added to the JPO’s internet filing software. Accordingly, seven of the most-requested documents (approximately 2.3 million cases per year) will be eligible for online transmission.
- Patent /Registration Certificate (except for Certificate of International Trademark Registration)
Note: A patent/registration certificate has no legal power to prove that its holder is the rightful owner. - Annuity/Renewal Receipt
- Automatic Payment Notice
- Notification of Completion of Renewal of Trademark Registration
- Notification of Completion of Registration
Note: The absence of the notification does not prevent you from claiming to be the rightful owner. - Notification of Applicant’s Identification Number
- Notification of General Power of Attorney Number
