This design related to a partial design for a holder for a surgical knife. Design registrations have been granted for one principal design (A) and two related designs (B and C.).
Three different numbers are shown as registration numbers at the upper right of the illustrated gazette entries. Under the similar design system of the former law, registration numbers of similar designs were shown, for example, “123456-similar 1” or “123456-similar 2”, and so on (the number “123456” being the registration number of the principal design). By these registration numbers, it is instantly clear whether the design shown in the gazette is an independent design, similar design, or a principal design. However, it is not possible to obtain such information, form the related design registration numbers in the gazette.
In the official gazette entry for related design B, there is an item “design registration number of the principal design”, and the number of the principal design A is indicated next to this item. Further, in the official gazette entry for related design C, in addition to the item “design registration number of the principal design”, there is an item “design registration numbers of other related designs relating to the principal design”, and the number of related design B is printed.
The difference in the official gazette entries for related designs B and C is in the dates of registration.
Although one can obtain a certain amount information from the official gazettes, in order to determine a family of design registrations, it is necessary to use other sources such as the PATOLIS database.
